How To Prepare Your Skin For Halloween Makeup

Halloween makeup can be harsh to your skin. Skin preparation is absolutely necessary, both to prepare your face to receive a heavy amount of product layering, and to survive the onslaught during and after you wear your Halloween makeup.

Here are some tips on how you can prepare your skin to look its best come Halloween:

Tip No. 1:  Check the labels
If you can do away with face paints and just settle with your makeup then, that’s the best direction to take in consideration of your delicate skin.  However, if you’ve already made up your mind and put in some effort practising a look that you’d like to wear then, there’s no turning back from face paint. Make sure to check the labels to validate that it’s face paint and that it’s free from toxic ingredients that can and will harm your skin.

Tip No. 2:  Exfoliate
Exfoliating your skin for such a special event where you can show off your makeup skills will not only clear your skin of debris and leave the surface soft and silky, it also prevents impurities from getting pressed into your skin. Exfoliate at least a day before dress up day to give time for any possible abrasions to heal, creating a barrier between your skin and your cosmetics.

Tip No. 3:  Moisturise
No need for a deep moisturising mask, you can save it for later.  For now, treat your skin first by applying moisturiser. This seals in moisture as heavy makeup will give your skin little room to breathe later.  Plus, the moisture adds a layer of protection to your skin.

Tip No. 4:  Prime your skin
This is very important when you’re wearing face paint.  Protect your skin from any possible irritation by sealing it with a primer.  Besides priming, it will help keep your makeup from slipping and will help your colours stay in place.  Primers texturise skin in a way that lets makeup cling tightly to the primer effortlessly. It negates the greasiness of oil and the moisture of sweat, and is useful for controlling how these two natural skin elements affect your makeup over a prolonged period of time.

Tip No. 5:  Use only long wear
Keep your makeup from smudging out of control everywhere on your face, by using only long-wear makeup. Stronghold cosmetics are likely to be formulated with harsh ingredients. Make sure yours are not loaded with harmful chemicals so that these don’t end up irritating your skin.

Tip No. 6:  Contact lenses
If contact lenses are necessary for the look that you’re going for, don’t just buy them from anywhere. Keep in mind that your eyes are highly sensitive and prone to infection. Avoid getting your eyes infected by using only contact lenses from a brand and store that can be trusted.
