After I published a photo of the contents of my travel makeup bag (a post from what seems like ages ago) I realised one important thing I had forgotten to pack, my new MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation. With bold claims of being waterproof (rain and tear), this seemed the perfect product to trial on holiday.  I wasn't planning on shedding any tears, however with constant dips in and out of the sea and pool and with temperatures soaring, this may be a great product for holiday weather.

Look Magazine (below) also championed this foundation so I knew it was one I had to pick up.

Pro Longwear didn't quite make it onto my face for a day at the local waterpark, however one particular day I had dreams of exiting the swimming pool looking like a goddess (or more realistically a hot mess), so instead of going makeup free (which was for most of the holiday) I applied a thin layer over Kiehl's Ultra Light Daily Defense, (a quite brilliant SPF50 moisturiser) and I guess you want to know if it's worth the hype, right?

First off the packaging is sleek and lightweight. Ideal for packing in your handbag or suitcase. The shade range mirrors other MAC foundation lines and is extensive with a shade to suit all skin tones. For your ref I am NW20.

To apply: I found this works really well with a foundation brush. Be warned you need the tiniest amount, which will cover the whole face. More than a pea sized amount seems to go almost tacky and slightly cakey. This foundation gives fairly good coverage, however if you're looking for something buildable then this is not it. It's fairly easy to blend, but you have to work quite quickly.

How long did it last?
I applied this around 8.30am, walked around Kos town in sweltering heat, stopped off for lunch and raced back to the hotel in a beach buggy. Sweated, swam and sweated some more. 12 hours later it was still kind of there, even after swimming and losing my body weight in water! It's quite remarkable the only place for the foundation to fade was the usual t-zone area. If you're looking for something to cover problematic skin, I wouldn't go for this.  It's perfect just to even out skin not to conceal and cover.

MAC's waterproof foundation isn't going to give you a face caked in makeup, instead what it will do is even skin tone and provide an even base, leaving skin looking pretty flawless.

A great addition to any makeup bag this summer and perfect to give just that little bit of help we all need. A must-have.
